Growing informality. Over the last decade the plumbing industry has seen the informal sector continue to grow unabated whilst the formal sector continues to decline. This has directly impacted on formal employment opportunities, has caused damage to municipal infrastructure, placed the public’s health and safety at risk, impacted the sustainability of small business owners and is damaging the image and reputation of a crucial trade. It is against this backdrop that industry seeks to convene a national dialogue with all relevant stakeholders to find collective solutions seeing that this matter calls for an urgent response or attention.
